Celebrating Heritage, Innovation and Craft – Kiwinet nets another year of experience
This May, we proudly celebrate Kiwinet’s birthday month – marking over three incredible decades of pioneering the design and manufacture of beautifully styled, safari-inspired mosquito nets.
From humble beginnings in 1994 in the farmlands of Stanford Valley, under the visionary leadership of Robyn Lavender, Kiwinet has grown from a handful of rolls of netting into a thriving, innovative business. What began as a local idea has become an international symbol of quality, elegance, and craftsmanship.
As we reflect on our journey, we are proud to share two defining features of our continued evolution and success.
Due to years of our continued growth, we have secured exclusivity through our local suppliers of our 70 gsm Premium mosquito netting with a denier of 150. Offered in a varied palette of white, ivory, flax, charcoal, black, and khaki, it embodies strength, durability, and refined luxury.
Much like thread count in fine linens, a higher gsm signals denser quality and a longer-lasting finish, designed to stand the test of time and travel. We still offer our Standard mosquito netting with a 38 gsm and 75 denier.
** thread count refers to the number of threads woven into one square inch of fabric. A higher thread count generally suggests a softer, denser, and more luxurious fabric. eg Egyptian linen ranging between 300 to 500 thread count per square inch.
** grams per square meter (gsm) is the unit that indicates the weight of a material –used to quantify the density or thickness of a material.
** Denier is a unit of measurement used to determine the fibre thickness of individual threads or filaments used in the creation of textiles and fabrics. Fabrics with a high denier count tend to be thick, sturdy, and durable.
Equally iconic is our identifying signature disc detail, first introduced in 2010 – a set of natural, hand-sewn coconut discs carefully threaded as a unique accent on the openings and base of an opening on every Kiwinet. More than just a beautiful finish, it tells a story of craftsmanship, community, and tradition, making each net a unique piece of functional African art.
Today, Kiwinet is powered by a family of talented artisans, creating romantic, custom mosquito nets that transform lodges and private homes alike. We are endlessly grateful to you – our loyal clients – for your vision, partnership, and support in helping us to elevate & enhance boudoirs around the world.
Here’s to another year of beauty, durability, and African-crafted excellence.
If you can dream it, Kiwinet can create it.
