Landfill Awareness – Best Practice
It is a well-known fact that Kiwinet Mosquito Nets is a proudly environmentally conscious company, committed to doing our best to protect the Earth. As an example, we repurpose and reuse ALL scrap and packaging in an effort to cut down on landfill and remind ourselves of our alignment with World Conservation Day celebrated every year 28 July.
Landfills have a negative effect on our environment. Waste, both residential and commercial, buried in landfill sites break down at an extremely slow rate and ultimately become a problem to be addressed by our future generations. Those of our children and grandchildren.
We actively practise the philosophy, as a responsible manufacturer, that diverting as much waste from landfill sites as possible will go a long way in preventing pollution which can harm both our health and our environment. Reducing, re-using and recycling waste rather than landfilling or burning it can also result in higher income job creation from recycling initiatives. As an example, we donate scrap netting to Botswana & Zambia for community projects involved in home crafts.
Besides the unsightly views of a landfill site, nauseous odours, rat and seagull infestations (that present their own waste contributions), there is the issue of toxins (from products sent to landfill sites), leachate (which is the liquid formed when landfill waste decomposes, and water filters through the waste polluting surrounding groundwater and waterways) and greenhouse gas (when organic material decomposes without access to oxygen in an anaerobic process releasing lethal methane into the atmosphere).
